Money Saving Tips for Doing Disney on the Cheap!

We're still not up and running completely with our blogger page but that isn't going to prevent me from writing a money saving blog on "Doing Disney on the Cheap!" for you all! One of my most favorite times of the year is Christmas and one of my most favorite places on Earth at Christmas is at "The Happiest Place on Earth" ... DISNEYLAND! My little family of 4 has been to Disneyland at least 5 times and we've ALWAYS done it for a total of $900.00 or less! Here are my tips for getting the best prices on your Disneyland vacation: 1. Use Priceline.com for your hotel options. More specifically, use Priceline.com's "name your own price option". GO LOW! If you go too low they'll give you a suggested lowest price to enter. I always enter $10 less than they suggest! We've booked hotel rooms in some NICE hotels for $40 - $70 per night depending on the night and depending on the hotel. You might be a few miles away from the park but who cares? We didn't! 2. If you're driving, use your grocery store points to fill up before you hit the road! You'll save big on gas! 3. If you're flying ... again, PRICELINE.COM!! You cannot beat that website! Not only can my family do Disney on the cheap, I also booked an Alaskan vaykay for a total of $500.00 in plane tickets! Again, don't forget to use the "name your own price" option. You don't get to choose what airline accepts your offer but you are guaranteed no more than 2 stops along your journey! 4. The Disney Park allows you to bring your own water bottles and your own food! Sometimes they will let you bring little snacks into the park but other times they'll make you check your food into the lockers right outside the park. Seriously, it is no big deal to take a break from the fun, go out to your locker and have lunch in the nice picnic areas they have provided! The park might seem big and intimidating to first timers but it's actually very small once you learn how to navigate! If they allow your meals in the park, we've boarded the ferris wheel on one occasion to dine in style and we've also boarded the Mark Twain Ferry Boat to eat lunch! We packed items like peanut butter sandwiches, trail mix, beef jerky and microwaveable rice packages with little Campbell's Soups on the Go! Don't forget handi wipes and plastic ware! 5. Tell the kids beforehand they are allowed one item at the end of their Disney trip. They'll know what to expect and will be less eager to beg for EVERYTHING! Trust me, even an adult would want to beg for everything they have for sale! THREE MUST HAVES though, that should not be considered in this deal, are Mickey Ears (EVERYONE DESERVES MICKEY EARS), a lanyard with a Disney button and AN AUTOGRAPH BOOK! P.S. on the autograph book: make sure to carry a pen with you because the characters don't! People walk around the park getting character autographs, and trading buttons so your child or "the child in you" needs a lanyard with at least one "pin" or button and an autograph book! These are NON NEGOTIABLE if it's your first trip to Disney! 6. Check your local grocery stores for passes. Many times these are A LOT cheaper than you can buy at the park. If you have California friends/family or military friends/family, plan your trip with them as they usually get even better prices than anyone can get ANYWHERE! You'll enjoy catching up and the lower fare! 7. Right now, depending on the zip code you live in, www.couponnetwork.com is offering $30 in savings with the purchase of Disney tickets. I've been unable to view the offer myself as I don't live in one of the zip codes but go to the website and check out "yourbucks offers" to see if you live in one of the zip codes offering the $30.00 additional savings! 8. Bring enough large garbage bags for the amount of people in your party if you don't like to get wet and you don't want to buy a poncho or buy new clothes! There are plenty of water rides at Disney and California Adventure that CAN drench you! They sell ponchos (exorbitantly priced and ironically, they have a clothes shop near one of the water rides!). My daughter was 3 when we first took our kids and when she got wet she LOST HER MARBLES! We bought her a long little nightgown at one of the shops and ate at the StoryBook Cafe (BIGGEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK because PSST! It's ALL YOU CAN EAT) and we sat by the fireplace so her clothes would dry while we ate. YES, we laid her clothes out on the fireplace! Our hotel was 8 miles away! Everybody was so cool about it though and her clothes were toasty and warm by the time we had to leave .... we stayed awhile and ate .... A LOT! :D There you have a few tips to lessen the cost of a holiday Disney trip! I hope you found some of my tips if not all of my tips highly useful! Please feel free to list any additional tips or advice you may have to help our fellow Classy Couponers have a wonderful Disneyland vacation! :) Merry Christmas! Love, The Classy Couponer
